Our updated wellbeing pledge:

because good wellbeing is good for your health

Life puts pressure on us from every direction. Financial worries, health concerns, the juggle of relationships and responsibilities, time… wellbeing isn’t something that sits neatly into a single category. A wellbeing package that works for one single person might mean less to another.

That’s why, when we revisited our wellbeing pledge, instead of asking “what can we offer the team?” we asked “what does wellbeing actually look like for each person?”. The answer, unsurprisingly, is different for everyone.

We first shared our wellbeing pledge back in 2022, and while it was a great round up of all of the goodness that we offered then, a lot has changed. We’ve grown more, and kept building on what we started.

Here’s where we are now:

A £25 monthly wellbeing allowance: yours to spend your way

This is the most recent, and a favourite, addition to our pledge. A £25 wellbeing allowance for every team member of the team, to spend on whatever wellbeing means to them.

Why this matters?

Rather than gifting things that might not land (we love giving gifts and offering tokens of appreciation), or offering social events that could actually add pressure to an already full week, we’re giving the team a budget with no strings attached. A massage or reflexology, a set of lashes or nails, laser therapy, clothing or workout wear you had your eye on, a weekly coffee, workout class, entry for the family for a National Trust walk… whatever genuinely supports how you feel. Wellbeing should never be a one-size-fits-all.

An employee loan scheme

Now in place for anyone who needs financial support outside of their usual pay. We know that financial stress is one of the biggest pressures on our overall mental and physical health, so having that safety net matters.

Bonus update

Rather than landing directly into our pay packets (where they can sometimes appear to disappear without feeling like a reward), the team can now choose to take them as vouchers. That might mean a fresh wardrobe for the new season, or a supermarket shop that comes in especially handy at Christmas. The goal is that bonuses feel like a real treat, because they should!

Less drive time

We’re also working on something we’ll be sharing more about very soon. Spaces to allow for the team to spend less time driving. But more on that in a week or so…

And, something we feel strongly about

A workplace that feels safe for everyone

Good wellbeing starts with feeling safe. Safe to show up as yourself, safe to ask questions, safe to raise concerns, and safe in the knowledge that you are genuinely valued.

We are committed to being a workplace where every person – regardless of background, identity, healthy, or circumstance – feels welcomed, respected, and supported. We hold ourselves to that standard every day.

We’ve never believed that wellbeing is a box to tick. It’s something that needs to evolve, just like the people it means to support. The last few years have taught us that no two people experience work, stress, or joy in the same way. The best we can do is listen, support, keep building, and make Whyfield a place where the whole person (not just the working one) is considered, and they can thrive.

“We are a business, we exist to be profitable and we have important responsibilities to fulfil for our clients, but we are also building a workplace where people can be proud of the work they do, enjoy their time with us, and feel safe in their jobs” – Laura Whyte, MD.
